This little tobacco factory was originally known as Joo Lan Tobacco Co.
It was bought over by the cash rich Indonesian tobacco giant P.T SAMPOERNA some years ago, after which their "kretek" cigarettes were manufactured here.
In the early 2000's, Philip Morris International bought over the entire tobacco business of PT Sampoerna and became the new owners of this quaint, old and terribly congested factory.
It is now run by a number of experienced managers, most of whom are drawn from BAT,and other tobacco companies.
It must be for strategic business reasons that PMI is still operating this factory, which definitely DOES NOT meet PMI standards, image and reputation!

Hi everybody
I stayed at Horley Hall in 1976-80...almost 28 year ago..Under supervision by non other than Mr Brian Fernander whom we fondly called BM..However looking back at the hostel nowaday,I could feel its loneliness. No more boarders..
Memories flooding back to me.Having sharing the good and bad time together..almost every inciddents still vivid in my mind an I did recelled them form time to time..
The lagacy will always remain to all ex HH hostelites..ORA ET LABORA
